At ENUSA we are committed to responsible management that considers the impacts on people and the environment. We work in the present to build a more sustainable, fair and egalitarian future.
We believe in a future project that seeks economic sustainability of the business while meeting the commitments acquired in the 2030 Agenda to face the challenges derived from sustainable development. We are members of leading organizations in sustainability and social responsibility, with the aim of advancing the integration of social, environmental and good governance aspects in our strategy.
We try to constantly apply the concept of sustainability to the performance of our activity. We are aware of the responsibility we have towards the environment and we carry out strict control over the impact that our industrial activities have on the environment. Our quality and environmental management system It is based on manuals, procedures and operating standards approved by current regulatory bodies.
Our work for a renewed and sustainable future is also evidenced by our firm commitment to equality between women and men and between different groups. Expression of this is the current Equality Plan of the company. In terms of equality, ENUSA is also part of Women´s Empowerment Principles (WEP´s), a group of principles conceived as a guide to promote women's empowerment and gender equality in organizations, in line with the 2030 Agenda and the Sustainable Development Goals (SDG).
Our commitments
We commit to respect and comply with the principles related to Social Responsibility established in the following instruments: the Universal Declaration of Human Rights, the United Nations Global Compact, the Conventions and Recommendations of the International Labor Organization (ILO) and all national, community and international legislation applicable to any of the business areas of ENUSA and its investees.
Sustainable Development Goals (SDG)
In 2015, the United Nations General Assembly approved the 2030 Agenda for Sustainable Development, made up of 17 objectives (the so-called Sustainable Development Goals -SDGs-) and 169 goals linked to the planet's great challenges. This is a global commitment that links public and private sector entities and makes business organizations protagonists of this new sustainable economy framework.
At ENUSA we have taken the first step with the realization of a «materiality analysis» with which we have identified which objectives and goals we have the capacity to influence and we want to focus our strategy and future projects.
Our priority ODS, due to the impact on the business and the priority for ENUSA, are the following:
We have been participants in the United Nations Global Compact since 2002, the year in which the Spanish network of this initiative was founded. Since then we have been committed to its ten principles based on the promotion and respect of human rights, labor rights, environmental rights and the fight against corruption.

At ENUSA we contribute to social development of communities in which we operate, carrying out activities that directly impact their economic, social and cultural progress. This business philosophy has led us to worry about achieving maximum integration between our work and the needs of the society in which our centers are located.
At ENUSA we have always implemented management actions and policies in which values such as the protection of the environment, the promotion of education and research, the promotion of training, culture and contribution to social causes play a fundamental role.
Sponsorship and patronage
At ENUSA we are clear that the continuity of our business and our work depends on our efficiency in technical and operational processes but also, and fundamentally, on the opinion that others have of us.
We consider that the business sustainability It is based on a business whose priority vision is subsistence over time, but a social commitment of the company to its environment is also necessary.
To this end, since 2013 we have had a Sponsorship and Patronage Plan through which we collaborate with various foundations and cultural projects, and with various social organizations.

Environmental management
At ENUSA we are aware of our responsibility towards the environment and therefore we carry out strict control over the impact that our industrial activities have on the environment.
In order to identify and prevent the possible environmental effects of the Juzbado factory activity and minimize our impact on the environment, we developed a environmental management system applying the provisions established by current environmental legislation. Thus, our quality and environmental management system is based on the manuals, procedures and operating standards approved by the competent regulatory bodies, and is constantly updated with the most appropriate practices and the most effective technologies for the work carried out at all times. .
Our factory has its corresponding Radiological Protection Service, responsible for controlling the radiological impact of our facility through the Environmental Surveillance Program (PVA) which consists of an Environmental Radiological Surveillance Program (PVRA) and the Environmental Chemical Surveillance Program (PVQA).
At ENUSA we have six specialized laboratories that follow strict criteria of quality, independence, experience, professionalism, safety and respect for the environment, supported by the technical certifications by ENAC according to the UNE-EN ISO/IEC 17025 standard and the quality management system by AENOR according to the UNE–EN ISO 9.001 standard. They analyze samples from the manufacturing process and the facility's surveillance programs, as well as personnel dosimetry or the determination of the quality of water for human consumption or discharge parameters.
The Environmental Management System is implemented and certified by AENOR (No. CGM-99/031) since April 1999, in accordance with the requirements of the UNE-EN ISO 14001 Standard. In addition, in July 2003 we adhered to the European EMAS Regulation. We are the first industrial facility in Salamanca and the second in Castilla y León to obtain this verification, a factor that demonstrates our high level of excellence in environmental management and our great commitment to protecting the environment.
In 2005 we adapted our Environmental Management System to the new UNE-EN ISO 14001: 2004 Standard, a process supported by the certification of the System (No. GA-1999/0031) in accordance with the requirements of the new standard in the external audit carried out by AENOR and since 2010 the System has been adapted to the requirements of the new European Regulation 1221/2009 EMAS III. In this way, the commitment to continuous improvement included in our Environmental Policy is fulfilled.
Our Environmental Management System includes the following elements:
- Environmental Policy. Public document that reflects the commitment of the ENUSA Management to the environment.
- Organizational structure. ENUSA is assigned the responsibilities of maintaining the Environmental Management System.
- Registration of legal requirements and other applicable requirements.
- Identification and evaluation of impacts direct and indirect environmental impacts generated by the factory's activities.
- Establishment of annual environmental objectives and goals .
- Environmental Management Program. Allocation of responsibilities and resources, with a temporal planning of the different activities necessary to achieve their fulfillment.
- Training plan for workers. It is defined each year for all company personnel and covers three levels: awareness, improvement of training, and specific to the work to be performed.
- Operational control. Monitoring of the environmental aspects of the factory, differentiated into two blocks: radiological control and non-radiological control.
- Communication. Mainly through the Environmental Declaration (validated in accordance with the requirements of the EMAS regulation), and made available to the public on the ENUSA website (www.enusa.es)
- Periodic evaluation of compliance with legal requirements.
- Annual audits of the Environmental Management System that is subject to two types of audit: internal and external (both from the certifying/verifying entity and from clients).
- Annual review of the System by Management. Formal evaluation of the status and conformity of the Environmental Management System in relation to the declared Environmental Policy.
Both ENUSA's environmental policy and our environmental performance can be consulted in the Environmental Declaration of the Juzbado Fuel Element Factory, below:
